A Birthday Treat for Daisy!

As everyone knows, yesterday was Daisy's tenth birthday so after she spent the day getting treats from the bank, the Hallmark store, and Aubuchon Hardware while walking (and burning calories)  with a long list of friends I ended the day with a trip to her favorite ice cream spot, Cowlicks, in Dover, New Hampshire.

Even though I'm not convinced she knew it was her birthday I only had to look at her wagging tail to be convinced she knew what she was getting from the nice girl behind the counter!

Of course I told the girl that it was Daisy's tenth birthday so she put an extra bone in her doggy-friendly ice cream

and Daisy was happy about that!

I am truly blessed to have a friend who not only doesn't look ten but doesn't act it at all! I believe her lifestyle of walking and socializing with so many buddies combined with the meeting and greeting so many neighbors and shopkeepers in town has kept her young!

Happy birthday, Daisy! You are loved!

Daisy is 10 Today!

I'm interrupting my usual Wordless Wednesday post to pay tribute to Daisy who turned 10 today! The above picture was taken in the back lot of McDonald's in Vermont on May 30, 2009, just minutes after her foster parents of three months said goodbye to her. I will forever be indebted to them for giving her a wonderful start of a new life far away from the shelter where she waited far too long for stability.

That day was such a blur because my then fiance' and I were so nervous and excited that we forgot to ask her foster parents for her paperwork (the adoption agency never had any which had us question when her birthday really was) so we decided that May 30 would be her birthday. The vet later confirmed her age to be nearly 1 year old at the time of her adoption so by all accounts she really and truly is 10 years old today and it is hard to believe! Look at how young she (and, sadly, me) looks!

Shortly after driving Daisy to her new home I quickly introduced her to my dear Teacher's Pet Sitting Service client and pal, Sophie (pictured)and many other pet sitting friends!

When she wasn't socializing with pet sitting friends she's kept herself busy by going swimming,

sitting pretty at the bank to get treats,

doing some Christmas shopping at Nicole's Hallmark in Dover,

stopping for water breaks at Adelle's  Coffeehouse,

catching the waves in York Beach, Maine,

visiting a turkey just in time for Thanksgiving,

getting ice cream with her pal, Molly,

swimming and barking up a storm in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts,

loving every minute of her many bus riding experiences in Martha's Vineyard,

and dining out with me in downtown Dover! These are just a sampling of the many memories I've had thus far with my buddy!

As you can imagine, the objective today will be to make sure Daisy enjoys her BIG day by doing the things she loves to do! Her list of favorite places to go is so long I'm certain that she will be satisfied with anything I choose for her!

I love you, Daisy! Happy birthday!

13 Friends Who Kept Me Busy This Week

This is the time of year when many pet parents plan vacations which means that thirteen friends kept me busy this week so I thought I would share their pictures with you!

Above are Grace (front) and her brother Coco,

and

their brothers Reid (front) and Hippie!

And then dachshunds siblings, Stu, and his new sister,

Ava needed lots of TLC!

And then there was Del who always looked regal at each visit!

And then there was Mittens who, at 17, looks and acts like a kitten along with her big brother,

Twitch!

And last but certainly not least were siblings, Levi,

Bijoux,

Maebe (left) and Rufus who needed care while their owners attended a wedding!

If you need to be away from your pets for any reason and live in the Dover, NH, area please consider Teacher's Pet Sitting Service to keep them company!

There Will Never Be Another Iggy

I've been holding out on you since two Saturday mornings ago, May 12th, which was when I found  out that Iggy died of a sudden heart attack while traveling to the vet. He had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure at least a year ago but was on medication that seemed to be help and had not shown any signs of poor health until just moments before he got in the car with his parents. To make matters worse, the 12th was his tenth birthday! To make matters even more tragic, the following day was Mother's Day and his poor mom was without her baby boy!

Iggy not only left behind two wonderful parents but also his brother, Arty, who I went to see  last week with Daisy to see how he was doing. Without his brothers, Lemmy (who passed away last year) and Iggy, barking, jumping, and hopping off the couch to see us Arty was fairly quiet but he was super excited to see us! I'm heartbroken for his family, including Arty, because they lost a guy with lots of personality and love.

One memory that stands out in my mind was when Iggy came indoors with a decoration attached to his tail that, to me, resembled a wreath! He kept looking back at it as if to say, "I just thought I'd do my holiday decorating early! What do you think?" followed by

my asking him how on earth he could've gotten THAT creative in a matter of minutes! He barked hilariously in response as I laughed and talked in a silly high-pitched voice until I finally removed it and

held it up for everyone to see!

Of course there were also moments when he slept peacefully beside me after a day of walks, barking at "predators" who drove by his house or stopped by to deliver a package,  playing with his red ball, talking me into giving him "one more" treat, and the occasional trip to get

                                                                ice cream!

Another memory I will always cherish is the above picture because it was taken just minutes after getting back from their first walk (along with my dog, Daisy) with me in July 2014. I can only say that I am happy that I savored every minute with them that day and every day going forward because moments like that were an absolute gift!

Rest in peace, Iggy! There will never be another you!

11 Days With Rocky Was Purrfect!

When I met Rocky during his Meet and Greet last week I laughed more than expected because I'd never met a cat who allowed his dad to place THIS many toys on top of him without one complaint! I knew then and there that I would have eleven fun-filled visits with Rocky and to prove my point I'd like to share the many ways he entertained me and I entertained him!

He caught mice!

He enjoyed being petted!

He knocked over the catnip container many times!

He loved to be brushed for what seemed like FURever!

He tried very hard to catch the red laser dot!

And of course he loved getting his picture taken!

Daisy Says "Wow!" at Woof Meow in Dover, NH

As soon as Daisy saw the sign in the kitchen at Woof Meow that read "Please help yourself to the cookies" she sniffed the

daisies,

ladybugs, and pizza slices until she settled on

on a no-frills cookie with blue icing! I thought surely she would've snagged a pizza slice! She later found out that "helping yourself" meant that the store wasn't giving them out for free! Good 'ol mom had to pay $1.75 for each cookie (a bargain!) but that was okay with me because it was fun to watch Daisy enjoy herself on an unusually hot spring day!

Do you have a Woof Meow in your neighborhood? If so, do your dogs love their cookies? What other items are a favorite?
