Louis & Bucky's Purrfect Weekend

Louis (front and center) and his litter mate, Bucky, were so excited about their visits with me this weekend that they could only sit still long enough while my camera was slanted! You get the picture (pun intended) that they are handsome though, right?

They had fun begging for extra treats (which they received), meowing to be let outside (I said no, of course), and rubbing against me as a sign that they didn't want me to stop petting them!

Whether your cats need visits to keep them happy for the day, the weekend, or a lengthy vacation, I'm available to help! If your cats live in Dover, New Hampshire, and don't have any other critters in the house they will be cared for at the lowest rate in town of $15 per each 30-40 minute visit! If your cat(s) live in adjacent towns the rates are still budget-friendly and as purr-sonable as can be! For more information, please visit my website today!

Overnight Pet Sitting Care Was a Comfort for Benny

Poor Benny didn't understand why his mom had to be away for the evening so I was hired to help him feel calm and comfortable by keeping him in his regular routine of

dinner,

treats,

snuggling,

and the chance to make a new friend with my pup, Daisy.

It was a bonus for him to be able to sleep in his own bed with Daisy by his side!

It made my heart happy to know that Benny was able to relax in the comfort of his own home rather than stay in an unfamiliar kennel boarding situation while his mom was away!

If you know that your dog would feel better with human companionship on an overnight basis I can help! For more information about this special service please visit my website and then make reservations today! Your dog will be happy you hired me!

Marcella Enjoys In-Home Care With Her New Pet Sitter

For the past five days I have had the pleasure of taking care of my new friend, Marcella, who is a ten year old ragdoll who are best known for their dainty and quiet nature. Isn't she a beauty?

Before Marcella was in my care she stayed at a friend's home where she did nothing but hide behind a couch so I was pleased that she enjoyed staying in her own home while enjoying eating and

playing with me at each visit!

It truly is rewarding to know that I've done my part in making sure that cats are comfortable when their owners cannot be with them!

If you would like your cat to stay in the comfort of his or her own home rather than stay in an unfamiliar boarding situation please consider professional in-home pet sitting through Teacher's Pet Sitting Service! For more information about my services please visit my website at http://www.teacherspetsitservice.com today!

4 New Kitty Siblings Enjoy Visits From Their New Pet Sitter

When clients go on vacation for longer than a day or two I start to feel like I'm their pet parent so it was no surprise that my visits with Hertzel (the black and white girl) and Shlomo along with their

siblings,  Keevsa and

Fistook, lasted much longer than the quoted 30 minutes because these pals will be in my care for two weeks! Thankfully, they have adjusted very well during their parent's absence and I am happy about that!

If you would like your pets to receive excellent care in their own home rather than in a boarding facility while you are away please don't hesitate to contact me! For more information please visit my website today!

A Tribute to Dear Lemmy One Year Later

I know it's Silly Cat Sunday but I am veering away from it to pay a tribute to Lemmy who died a year ago this evening in the arms of his loving mom after briefly battling a brain tumor. Last year on a hot and humid evening I received a shocking text from Lemmy's mom saying the complications of his brain tumor had gotten worse. He was having multiple seizures per day, frequent peeing (hence the pee pads you see under his dear feet) as a result of the seizure medications, and at the very end he was having trouble using his back legs. I was in denial hoping to get a follow up saying he was fine. Sadly, he didn't leave the vet office that evening.

This was the last picture I took of him just days before he passed away and, sadly, I had an eerie feeling I would not see him after I playfully asked him to pose for me. This guy meant the world to me and to this day I do not think I will ever recover from the loss.

Why has his death taken so much from me when I've had so many other memorable clients, you ask? There are many reasons but what stands out the most were his soulful eyes that spoke volumes when I did certain things that made his day such as driving him, his brothers, and my coon hound, Daisy, to get ice cream or to go on walks to his favorite location (a big field in front of the grocery store) and the grocery store entrance itself because he loved hearing shoppers tell him how handsome he was! I spent so much time with him that you would think I lived at his house and with that comes an unbreakable bond that I will never, ever forget.

Looking at this picture is bittersweet. I just hope he knew that I loved him and hoped and prayed I would see him one last time but, unfortunately, his illness went through him too swiftly and he needed to escape from it so he could have the peace he deserved. Thank God for his mom who unselfishly let him go to Rainbow Bridge right when he needed to and not a moment too soon. May he rest in peace.

Hippie Warms Up to His New Pet Sitter

During Hippie's Meet and Greet a few nights ago I was delighted to find that he settled on my coat while I reviewed his care instructions with his parents for at least an hour! I was so touched that he chose to show his acceptance of me as his pet sitter that I asked his mom to take this picture and send it to me and within an hour I shared it on my pet sitting Facebook page because I wanted the world to know that he was my new buddy! THIS is one of the many reasons why I know for certain that following my passion for pets by opening Teacher's Pet Sitting Service twelve years ago was one of the best things I've ever done! I know God gave me a gift of connecting with pets and I wouldn't have it any other way!

How Do You Know When It Is Time to Say Goodbye to Your Beloved Pet?

Even though my time with my Teacher's Pet Sitting Service friends is far less than they have with their families their loss stabs me in the heart in more ways than you can imagine. Knowing in advance that a pet is suffering from a serious illness, knowing the due date for his or her euthanasia, having the chance to say goodbye days before THE appointment, and having a wonderful time with the pet prior to a sudden loss doesn't ease the pain of no longer being able to see a dear friend on the next walk and/or cuddle. Whether these clients/friends have been with me for a few months or numerous years, there were memories that will not soon be forgotten.

As soon as my pet sitting friends were diagnosed with a serious illness I've been asked how long they should wait until they let their pet go. My first response was to ask if their pet has quality of life; in other words, I want to know if that pet has been showing an interest in eating, drinking, playing, having treats, and going for walks. If the interest is not as it should be I suggest that they keep a log of his or her activity or lack thereof and consult their veterinarian for further counsel.

I've always said that every pet, every family, and every situation is different with unique considerations for those involved but ultimately I've found that every pet gives certain cues that they are ready to cross the Rainbow Bridge.

Henry in his better days acting as my co-pilot!

In my situation with my dear tabby cat, Henry, (whose box holding his fur is pictured above) he let me know that he wanted to go on a car ride to see the vet but within minutes of the drive he reached up to take a final look out the window (a favorite activity of his since he was a kitten) and then made a strange noise and passed away. I still shudder when I think of that moment but I am comforted knowing he passed away doing what he loved: riding in my lap in the car.

If you're reading this you are in deep distress while trying to determine if it is time to say goodbye to your beloved pet so I did some research and found a test that will help you reach your decision called the Quality of Life Scale.

Please feel free to reach out with words of wisdom or to share your story of loss.

I hope this post is of some comfort to you.
